The United African Canadian Women’s Association,
U.A.C.W.A is a community based non profit association. The U.A.C.W.A was formed in May 1996 by a group of African Canadian immigrant women who live in Nova Scotia. The members of the association are committed to improving the welfare of immigrant women’s families as they make their new home in Canada.
 
The U.A.C.W.A’s mission is:
“To provide support for members and non members and their families by designing programs that will meet their needs in education, employment, professional development, cross cultural understanding and self-empowerment.”
 
Objectives of the Association:
  1. Provide opportunities & frameworks for professional growth as well as social, economic, psychological and spiritual development
  2. Provide support for members and their families by designing programs that will meet educational and professional needs while promoting self-empowerment and cross cultural understanding
  3. Assist immigrant women to understand their workplace culture and how to deal with related issues, through employment mentorship, coaching, support groups and workshops
  4. Partner with other existing organizations to promote cross-cultural understanding and enrichment through cultural education programs
  5. To welcome newly arriving African Canadian Immigrant women and their families and to facilitate and expedite their process of settlement and integration
 
Membership of the Association
Membership is open to individuals over the age of 18 residing in Canada who uphold the objectives of the Association and contribute to the support of its programs and activities. There are three categories of membership: general, honorary and organizational membership
